Default 91 Cherokee power cutting out

I have a 91 xj. A few months ago it wouldn't start and a used some starter fluid and finally got it running. A guy who helped me said it was my fuel pump because you couldn't hear it starting up when you turned the key on. Then it was fine for a while and I decided to do an axle swap so it didn't really run for about two to three weeks ( took a while cause of work and other stuff) but now it had been having problems. It will be driving fine and then under acceleration it will sputter really bad. I tried replacing the relay off my parts jeep and that didn't work so im gonna try replacing the fuel filter but my question is would a bad fuel filter cut in and out like that and should I even bother using the pump out of the parts jeep or just get a new one

Do you have access to a fuel pressure tester? Most FLAPS will rent/loan you one..

Im not sure what a flap is but Advanced auto probably will but the problem is intermittent so if it's in the mood to work fine would I get good fuel pressure

Friendly Local Auto Parts Store.

If you have a working fuel pump on hand and don't mind the labor, swapping them might be a good idea.

Not bad on a 91. You can get to it without dropping the tank. Just drain it down, disconnect the plumbing and wiring, knock the lock ring loose and swap away.
