my cherokee will start but dies when at a stop. i pulled fuel filter and while off i put bucket under line and turned key and pump wont run . it does prime then stops. i jumped resistor same thing. i jumped the relay and it will run continusly. my question is ;should it run all the time with key on and line in a bucket . do i have a bad key switch ?. i know pump gets power from the computer does that mean it wont run the pump unless truck is running and on its wheels .

Pump circuit is designed to prime but not continue to run unless engine is running.

Ballast resistor is not in circuit at start-up but kicks in to reduce voltage to the pump and quiet it when running.. You can bypass the resistor while troubleshooting just to eliminate is as a potential problem Or just bypass it permanently as many have done.

Sounds like your pump is working as designed. I would look for something else as your problem. As I understand it, your Jeep starts and runs fine until you stop for some reason and it then dies while at idle?

yes thats right starts than will die at lights or after using the throttle and letting it idle.i will put the new fuel filter on and give it a try, the old one was restrictive compaired to the new one. i was just making shure about the pump and key switch before i did it. will post the results.

ok its fixed! new fuel filter made all the difference. thanks guys.
