Default '91 ABS removal clarificaiton

Hi again,

I've got a '91 XJ Limited and the Bendex ABS system has gone ****-up. Naturally I'd rather just fit a normal XJ brake system but wanted to clear up some of the details before I started buying parts.

As I understand it, when going from ABS to non-ABS you need to add the brake master/booster from a non-ABS XJ as well as the matching proportioning valve. I'd also like to nail down that there's no silly reason why the gear from a regular '91 (lets say) non-ABS XJ wouldn't fit. I'm looking for a straight-forward job here; no upgrades for now, I just want to have working brakes again.

So, again, just to recap. Going from a '91 ABS system to a non-ABS system can be done with the brake booster/master and proportioning valve from another XJ, right?

Thanks for the help guys. It'll be nice being able to stop again.

i'm kinda in the same boat, but you're also gonna have to figure out how to get rid of the dash ABS light.

i have a 90 with the bendix 9 abs system mine started getting very screwy sometimes the pump would cut out and sometimes only one wheel would brake but the other three would not i took the brake module box mounted on the driver side under the rear seat and unhooked it and all my brakes started working again but i now have a double amount of pedal travel than i had prior but i have been running it like this for a little over a month and Ive been wheeling like this and haven't found any other problems than having to apply more pedal than before but also do want to do the conversion

I'm just gonna take out the ABS light. As for the removal of the control module, that's fine if your pump still works. Mine was on it's last legs for about a month before it finally gave up (on the highway).

eeeewwww that sucks big time but5 if it makes you feel any better your not the only one with this issue i have also been told that there is a life time recall on the abs systems like we have and if you take it to a dealer they have to fix it even if you the 100th person to own it since it was new

If it were as easy as bringing it into the dealership I'd have done it as soon as the problem started.

It's a brake safety issue/recall they can't say no because of the lift.
