Default 90' low operating temp or faulty gauge?

Hello yall! I have a 90' cherokee that will have its temperature gauge sit at 140 to 145 degrees even after sitting at idle on a summer day. Does anyone think this could be a thermostat issue or a gauge issue? The gauge shows no sign of abnormalities and will start at below a 100 degrees and climb to 140 when first started and allowed to warm up. This is a vehicle that has 200k on ot so I realize it might be a t-stat or well anything. I just wouldn't of thought even if cooking itself on a hot day that it would stay at 140. Advice, tips?

U need to verify it has a stat.....140 does seem low even without a stat during hot summer weather. Verify the gauge reading with a infrared temp gun pointed at the stat cover.

Would I just measure that across the sensor? Where is it located? I see somewhere that I have 2 sensors?

The one for the gauge is at the back of the head. One lead on the tip of the sensor with it unplugged and the other lead on a good ground.

I see what you did their..... Lol anyways to the OP, follows cruisers advice. You can also take a laser thermometer and shoot your tstat cover. It won't be dead on but it should give you an idea of what your running temp wise

I've had issues with my 90 runnen cool. (yes I know, makes no sense). The first replacement T-stat left just a little crack when closed, changed to the Mopar 195*...(that's "*" degree, lol) See if the idle stumbles every 20 seconds or so, get's slow, clears it's throat, sort of reves, repeats.
