Is it possible to put a 1990 engine into 1996 body?

I got a 96 body in excellent shape that threw a rod cheap, and I have a 1990 that runs great but the body's in rough shape.

I'd like to swap out the motors. I know the 90 is a Renix and the 96 is a Chrysler engine.

Will the 96 Cherokee take the 90 engine? If so is there any major modification needed?

Yes. Use your flywheel/flexplate, dizzy, intake and exhaust manifolds, valve cover.

 

How about putting a 97 engine into the 96 body?

Anyone know about any problems doing that?
