Default 90 Cherokee Tcase problem

ok guys, here is the problem. My wife has a 90 Cherokee Laredo with the np42-j. The tcase is gone. it slung apart. We are having problems finding a replacement. How or can i make a 231 tcase work? if so what all would i need to install the 231 tcase?

You must have a junk yard in Alabama, if nothing else, craigslist. I could be wrong but I believe the 231 has a different spline count than the 242.

You can swap in a 231.. you just need to pull your current broken TC off to check input spline count.

It's going to be either 21 or 23 spline, you'll then need a suitable replacement as well as the shift bezel.

so putting in a 231 tcase would really be no different than putting in a replacement 242 tcase? as long as the splines are the same count i should be good right?
