Hey guys I'm headed out to the desert with a long list of parts need to replace my cylinder head. Got most of the stuff to get the job done. i'm here because I need a recommendation for a good vendor to purchase a complete cylinder head? Has anyone ever purchased a cylinder head from powertrain direct? Got quoted $500 for A complete head... casting number( 2686) 1990 xj 4.0 I6 242 T. C. Just got through replacing my cracked head- also when I had the oil pan dropped to replace the rear main I noticed coolant in my Oil so this is what led me into replacing my cracked cylinder head. Did a pressure test and notice the leak was coming between three and four from the top. Pretty sure I caught it before it ate my bearings. So if someone can recommend an upstanding vendor for a complete head please let me know.. 1990 4.0 xj I6 242 tc. Thanks for all the help!

Powertrain Direct over in Detroit is a reputable shop. They've been in business I think forever. Some folks have used Clearwater Cylinder head as well.

Thanks I'll be doing some more research today hopefully I'll get this right the first time .

Not to many resources at my dads in Bullhead city, Nevada lol . I'll be renting a truck and trailer to do this job at my dads place . Most jobs I can do in my driveway but not this time ..

Powertrain seems to have good service?

Rock auto, has a head for 400 bucks cast #2686 anyone bought a head from them with a positive experience?

I like the idea of purchasing a complete brand new head...

What brand should I be looking for?
Thanks again for the help!

Not sure if it's a new head from ROck auto ?
Just looked it's a reman I think because the description says springs are checked and replaced if necessary.
Would like to hear a positive experience from them still 400 bucks though.

I'm sure it's not. Nothing wrong with a good used head.

I've bought several engine rebuild kits from Rock Auto and so many other parts I've lost count. They're local to me, so shipping is always overnight.
Haven't bought a Jeep cylinder head so I can't speak to that. Do they say who the rebuilder is?

No it doesn't, what would be a good brand-Head cylinder for my Renix? I went through powertrain, brand new complete head $450 bones $75 core, free shipping to send the core, and free shipping on the head itself.

Sorry for the miss information, it's a remanufactured cylinder head.
The sales rep on the phone obviously didn't have too much knowledge or was trying to just get a quick sale.

Nothing wrong with a "reman" I guess.
