Default 89' xj engine swap

I own a 89' jeep cherokee and it threw a rod threw the block so ive been looking for a engine, i found one from a 90' cherokee the 4.0 from that should work with mine shouldnt it and by that i mean basically wiring harness are the same and all that fun stuff? The guy claims it has 98,000 on it and said he'd take 400$ for it. I know theres probably been plenty of threads on this same subject but i cant ever really seem to find a straight forward answer so sorry if its another one of those threads lol i was just wondering thatnks guys

Both the 89' and 90' come from the renix era jeeps 91' and up have the high output (HO) engines. Based off that I would say they are compatible, BUT I have never done an engine swap so I will not say it will work because I honestly don't know.

True story. The only folks who say it won't work are generally those who haven't done it.

Yep! I would just find the cheapest and newest... And one where the oil pans not covered in oil...
