So I don't really know how the AW4 should feel when driving but mine feels like your driving a manual when in town. I know the torque converter is unlocking when I hit the brakes but when driving around town at lower speeds when you let off the gas it has that little jerk like you would feel with a manual tranny when you let of the gas. The XJ shifts and down shifts just fine and as stated you can feel the converter unlock when you hit the brakes. My assumption is that it should also unlock when you let off the gas and coast as well? Or maybe not? TPS is new and was adjusted on the tranny side so I decided to set it on the throttle side and it does seem to run better and still shifts just fine. Any thoughts on this or what I should look at? TPS is my second BWD brand seeing the first went bad after two weeks. I would assume that the TPS has something to with this issue and wondering if the BWD's are just S-h-i-t out of the box?

So after some searching and reading I found another post where a guy was having the same thing happening with his XJ, no TC unlock when coasting. He stated it was the first sign of his TPS going bad. Well looks like I may need to try another brand and take this BWD crap back and get a refund on it.

That I know but the issue is that the BWD TPS's are S-H-I-T right out of the box. Two in @ month that don't work means screw the warranty it's pointless if I have to keep replacing them. I'm picking one up from NAPA on Tuesday for $45 and taking the BWD back for a refund.

the big 3 auto parts stores (napa, checkers, autozone) parts houses sell some pretty cheap ****.
look for a more well rounded wholesaler type parts houses in your area..
good luck with your issue man.. sounds a little odd..
is the fluid at level/good condition

Fluid is great. Did a flush and fill twice about a month ago to clean out the old stuff. It's a TPS issue due to the fact that the TC unlocks when you hit the brakes. I'm gonna try the Napa one and see how that goes next week. They warranty it for 36 months and from what I have read the napa TPS's have a good track record. I found a lot of other guys in threads that have had similar trouble with the BWD ones.

Yep it does unlock when the brakes are hit so I know that part is working. It's just not when coasting. You let off the gas and get that jerk like it's a manual tranny.

I found this on another forum . "the AW4 TC lockup was not designed to handle the torque delivered in the lower gears which is why the tranny computer doesn't lock up the TC in the lower gears." So either mine is locking up or it's not and what I'm feeling is normal? Confused now? Is there anyway to tell if it is locking when in 1st or 2nd?
