Complete Noob here. Picked up my first jeep ever. The wife wanted a 4 banger wrangler I convinced her that we should get a Cherokee Straight 6, I won and the car runs nicely, it is manual trans, but there is a humming sound that is very noticeable. The sound comes on after driving a little and never goes away until the car is shut off. It sounds like it’s coming from the rear area of the car and you can hear it while running or idle. Just throwing out there to see if it’s something that can easily be identified. Attaching vid with sound.
Sorry, I'm scared to open your file, but it sounds (by your description) that the fuel pump ballast resistor has been jumpered. The ballast resistor is on the left fender outboard of the air filter. Look to see if a wire has been installed connecting the two terminals of the resistor. The resistor looks like this:
You are correct, it has not been jumped. If that resistor goes bad, a quick fix is to jumper across them. In doing so, the fuel pump is powered by 12 volts at all times and tends to be louder than typical. As already stated, it is not something you need to worry about, until the sound (and fuel) stops. Since 15 people listened, I got brave and listened to your video as well. It sounds like a fuel pump - it even sounds like mine. Enjoy your new to you XJ.
