Default 89 jeep cherokee upgrade alternator issues

I have an 89 xj. I upgraded to a 160 amp alternator. I tested alternator and it passed at store, but when I install the alternator and check with volt meter directly to alternator. Its NOT showing 1 volt...connected a thick wire from alternator to ground of battery.....still 1 volt......any ideas?

What alternator did you get? The Renix alts are internally regulated. Did you get an external regulator?

Isn't the 2001 Durango alternator regulated by the PCM? To make that work you'll need an external regulator.
