No amount of splash guards will completely prevent it from getting wet. If you're having a huge issue with your alternator getting wet and frying, consider getting yourself a waterproof alternator.

Marine alternators aren't waterproof - they merely have added guards inside to prevent sparks being thrown (and to ground them out if/when they do happen.)

If you're having trouble with your alternator getting excessively wet, search for "Alternator relocation" instead. Many people have managed to move their alternator up to where the aircon is, and that gets it pretty well out of the way (why AMC put it down bottom, I'll never understand.)

My bad, I used marine to denote waterproof.

I know there's some fab work involved in adapting the A/C compressor bracket to take the alternator, and some finagling to adapt/reroute the belt, but bolting everything up is pretty easy once you've got that all sorted.

I simply haven't done it myself. Yet. Probably do it as part of the refit on my 88. I know there are writeups out there - if not on this board, then on others...

Not only. Marine alternators are built with IP 68, that means they are not waterproof but can work submerged.
