89 eating o2 sensors
What I mean is, after my original post, I put a new o2 sensor in it and it went back to normal, running smooth...just like when I smogged it last. No rich smell or anything. But, yes, it will still die if I pull the map vac line off.

What brand O2 sensor did you originally use?
ILYA,, we need to translate what your posting? Cant read it. I can see have Renix stuff on your site.
Cruiser, I guess Im fishing for a cause...something that would knock out o2 sensors frequently. I put in 2 and looks like previous owner had put one in as well...all within a years time. Just seems like to big of a coincidence that 3 sensors would just be bad?

I had a burst collector and the sensor showed nonsense. And stopped showing, it just hung on some values. Repaired, bought a new sensor but did not put it ... while I think it could be in the old motor and for this reason they die-consumption is very large 30L approximately in the village
So my rig is doing this again. It has ran fine since I started this post awhile back, then today I started her up and it started acting like it wanted to die then idled up to normal. After about 10 seconds it will do it all over again. Same symptoms as last 2 times I replaced the O2 sensor. Im going to get a new one and put it in and see what it does, but Im 99 percent sure itll fix it.
Still dont understand what would cause this? If I didnt have 12 volts at the plug, I dont see why it would run well for a couple months then suddenly act up?
Any further suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Mark

I’m not sure on the older Xj’s, but on my 2000 there is a fuse under hood for o2 sensor. I had this same issue, went through about 5 sensors before I read about the fuse under hood. Could be something easy and cheap to look at
Thanks.
Ok..I hate to ask but I have to.
I want to test for 12V for heater at the o2 plug as suggested in beginning of this thread. I dont know much of anything about electrical. I have a multi meter though, but dont know how to use it. Can someone give me a step by step on how to do this check? Like Im assuming I set meter to something, (dont know what) and stick red probe into plug terminal with orange wire, but what do I do with black probe? Touch metal somewhere for a ground? Im assuming I need to have engine running as well?
Thanks for your patience. I can wrench a bit...but Im almost totally electrical ignorant.
