Unhappy 89 cherokee rear-end ?is it?

Happy Holidays to All,
Was wondering what the rear-end is in my 89 cherokee w/4.0 EFI
Can ID the Dana 30 up front & what looks a NP231 for the 'T' case but
the outer cover configuration of the of the rear-end looks nothing like a Dana 35 as per my Quadtrac Booklet...so the question is what is it?
Thanks to all in advance for answering this thread!

if so, it's a dana 44 and one of the few installed in an 89 xj (the factory was using overstock by then)

there's no other stock options

Not in 89...In 89 it's either a D35 or D44...The 8.25 if memory serves wasn't till like 91 or so..I could be wrong though.

Yeah, brainfart. It was started as an option in '91.

Smile 89 cherokee rear-end ?is it?

This site & the members are awesome!

Was looking in my Quadtrec Booklet again & took another look at the rear & it looks like a Chrysler 8.25 cause the cover is round & NOT diamond shaped & oddly enough this is an 89.
As for the requested pic I have no camera so is there a link that I can do process-of-elimination & fill you in on th outcome?

Thank you all again...you're all right on the ball!!

It's probably a D35 then...
Way back when, I figured mine out the lazy way...
I just bought both gaskets.

no way it's an 8.25 unless it's been swapped in.

look at the rear diff from underneath...is there a 2" lip at the bottom of it? if so, it's a chrysler 8.25. if not, it's a dana 35, if not, someone did alot of swapping.

Pretty close to totally round and the 8.25" doesn't refer to the size of cover, it's the size of the ring gear inside.

Thank you BowtieGuy3 for the rears link you supplied & to all else who responded.
This stupid Quadtrac Booklet that I got is showing a D44 where a D35 should be!
You are correct! The D35 cover's configuration is exactally what is in this Cherokee.
