It looks as if the module has overheated, the image of the distrib is very fuzzy on my end, but looks like the module may have just pure melted.

Quote: Okay guys... So i have a 88' Wagoneer XJ. This models components are virtually the same as the 88' Cherokee XJ. I bought this Wagoneer about a month ago thinking it just needed a new alternator and a tune up...... When i Bought it it ran but the battery wouldnt hold a charge. Replaced the alternator it ran for 1 day. Next day went to go to Auto zone and only made it about a quarter of a mile before it started sputtering then died. then it started 3 more time after letting it sit for a while. But would only run for about 3-5 seconds. I am getting no spark at all.I have replace the ignition coil, CPS, Spark plugs, and the alternator. I do have fuel at the rail. and my fuel pump does kick on after turning the key. It cranks and cranks and cranks but will not fire! PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you very much.
you can also check the condition of the cps wires for bare or broken wire this would be more of a no spark area

Quote: there is a module in there its a cam position sensor it could be the prob this module sends a signal to the ecm when to shoot fuel from the injectours
Had this same problem, you can replace the sensor but it is easier to buy a whole new distributer because it must be pressed apart to take the sensor off.

I dont know if this could be the problem but when i put in the new CPS i bought it from auto zone.... the male conector pins were slightly to big to fit in the female and stripped when i plugged it in. i then took the male from the old CPS and stripped the wires and connected it to the new CPS. What do you think?

i would start here," and the module in the dist can be replaced at home done plenty in my time"" i would check the wiring on the cps first

you cannot check a cmp or ckp reliably with a DMM, you need an o-scope. Do you have injector pulse?
