So my 88 XJ, 4.0, It began running rough with misfires and baffled pops randomly, we replaced the cap and rotor and plugs and wires, plugs definetly needed a change. That fixed the problem for a while. Then we changed the fuel filter which was very clogged, that helped, now its running its missing so bad and idling rough and popping its almost not able to drive but its not constant, it'll snap out of it and then come back randomly. What could be doing this? I ordered an Ignition Coil at napa but haven't paid yet. Its like $57 should I go ahead and change this? Almost out of ideas. Next thing I could think is a fuel pump but I just don't know anymore. Jeep has 207K on it. Sometimes too you'll come to a stop and itll be at like 700rpm running fine, other times its at like 400 barely running and shaking too.
Any Help Would be appreiciated.

EGR solenoid. My step mom's mini van did the same thing. Does it feel under powered? And when you get to a stoplight and it dies down, shift into neutral.

Check all vac lines, I have an 88 as well and my map sensor vac line cracked a bit. Also give your throttle body a good cleaning, do the simple stuff first before throwing parts at it

So check throttle body and the sensors on the throttle body. I cleaned throttle body once before and the Intake had some oil in it that came from the PCV. Probably not a good sign. Ive had the jeep about 6K Miles. Had it a year, keeps getting worse, it was fine when I got it.

Also check your wiring harness and the plug (c101) bulkhead connector ,my 88 was having issues . It turned out that the bulkhead connector was causing all sorts of problems, finely had to deleate the connector ,made a bid difference.
