I did a little bit of searching but I'm getting thrown in a few different directions. So my 88 Cherokee 4.0 AW4 has a few different problems, first it has an almost stalling idle upon start up, I have to keep my foot on the gas for a few minutes and then it'll stay around 800 rpm also it has a bit of a rough idle at stops. Then the more recent problem is very randomly my Jeep will bog down for a few seconds and go back to normal and then bog down again and do this a few more times.
The things I've done...
-Checked Map tube
-checking gas pressure today
- cleaned throttle body

Until Cruiser comes along you might want to take a look at his tips, found right on top in the link in my signature. 1-5 is often suggested, and since you have an 88 there are two options to deal with your C-101 connecter as well.
Myself, I'd check the CPS if my radio didn't work right! That trickster can do about anything, and only takes a minute to check. (OK, three minutes)

Oxygen sensor can be tested.
Make sure your intake manifold bolts haven't worked loose.
EGR could not be seating all the way and causing an internal vacuum leak also.

Had a bunch of homework to get done but back to the subject. Fuel pressure tested at 30 & 39 (without air tube). I re-did 1,3,4,5 and third are in all good. Manifold bolts have been checked and are good. Egr was also checked as par your instructions and tested good. Im going to get to the CPS, TPS, IAC today or early tomorrow also going to check 02 sensor.

CPS is bad for sure.
Modify the mounting hole on the new one per post 7.
I can't encourage you enough to do 1,3,4, and 5 first though.
Reason? CPS wiring goes through the C101.
I would just go ahead and eliminate the C101 per post 27 before doing anything else and see what teh results are. Can you solder and use shrink tubing?

CPS has been replaced and #7 was done before putting it back on. I also dropped a bolt inside my bell housing which took 40 minutes to extract. But got everything put back together and she runs great. Also C101 has already been taken out and wired soldered together with hear shrink around them.
