88 Cherokee cold start
Hello I'm Eric. I'm kinda new to Cherokees, but always loved them. Ok so my jeep has a hard time starting when cold or the first start of the day. When it starts sometimes the idle will get stuck on high rpm(2000-3000) range. It won't go down till I play with the throttle cable under the hood. I check the cable and it looks good. Also the idle gets stuck when the motor is worm or hot. Can someone pls. Help me find this problem. Thanks for your time and help. Eric

Your throttle cable is adjusted too tight. Rather than go through a long explanation now, I suggest that you get a Haynes manual on your XJ. They will show how to adjust the cable. If I remember correctly, you don't need any tools. There is a spring clip that you push while holding the throttle either open or closed. I forget which! It's not hard to do!

Ok I got idle getting stuck part fixed. It was the orfus or sumthing I had to clean it. But still having the cold start and first start of the day is really hard. Anyone any idea on this?

Mine's an 88 too, always takes longer to start in the mornings. It's just a Renix thing. The engine electronics only kick in at around 300 RPM and then it starts, if i remember correctly. Don't worry about it.
