88 Cherokee 4.0 fan hub and bearing
Got a bad fan hub bearing. Are these things pressed into their bracket or do you have to replace the whole bracket with it? Alternatives to dealer?

HAYDEN Part # 2625 Thermal
Reverse Rotation Standard Duty Thermal Fan Clutch
$34.79
Most local if not all parts stores sell them, they're not user serviceable.

Thanks for the post about the fan clutch. Although I will also need that part, the first problem is the bearing and hub assembly it bolts to, the part that is attached to the engine. That bearing is bad.

88 Cherokee 4.0 fan hub
This part is neither the idler pulley or on the water pump. The fan hub is located in the A/C bracket under the idler pulley which is also mounted on that bracket. The water pump is bolted to the block to the right of all of this. So, the serpentine belt wraps up from the alternator around the A/C clutch, under the idler, over to the power steering pump, around the water pump pulley in the middle, down around the crankshaft pulley, then up around the fan pulley, and back down to the alternator. The fan pulley is bolted to the fan hub which turns in a shaft pressed into the A/C bracket. I learned that this hub has no serviceable parts and the only way to fix it is to replace the whole bracket. Problem is that they don't make the bracket anymore apparently, and if they did, would be a rip-off dealer item. Being an '88, my Cherokee is of the "RENIX" type, referring to some of the parts which were made by a partnership between Renault and Bendix. Amazingly, I just located that rare bracket on ebay and it's on its way to me now. As I took the old one off and examined it, I'm wondering if a machine shop could press the worn one out and re-work it with a new bushing or something as a repair. It'd be worth looking into if I wasn't able to find the part I did. Hope some of this is helpful to anyone who also has an XJ of the same vintage as mine.
