Default 87 Jeep Pioneer Options?

I have an 87 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer. We have a 4.5 inch lift and we are running 33s. We are thinking of regearing, but are not sure what the current gear ration is. Did all sorts of searches. Does anybody have any idea?

Iknow it has the 44 rear end, and supposably the pioneer came with a tow package, which makes me think the ears are a bit lower than stock.

It seems like it will either be the 3.55 or 3.73. If it came iwth the toy package, maybe most likely the 3.73. I'd like to know how to tell as well. I may have a 3.73 as well, but I am unsure if my tow package came from the factory or was added later by a previous owner.

Not for sure it'll be 4.10... I've never seen one... all have been 3.73 with 4 bangers... even one in my jy with 3.55's and 4 cylinder...

Your Jeep MIGHT have a 44 rear... unless you have verified it don't expect it to be... not all pioneers came with the tow package... it was a added option to any Cherokee... and this old of a Cherokee wont be geared different because it had a tow package... just cause it has a hitch doesn't mean it was a tow package Jeep... and u didn't do many searches because "what gears do I have" and "what lift to fit these tires" are the two most asked questions...

I've seen 4.10's in a few 4 bangers but mostly 3.73, 3.55, or manual trans 3.07. I have an 89 pioneer with tow package (trans cooler and hitch with factory trailer wiring harness) but had factory Dana 35 non 'c' clip with 3.55's. You just don't know for sure til you pull the diff cover and count the ring teeth and pinion teeth then divide. Good luck

K, I believe you guys. But i have never seen 3.73 stock in XJ, ZJ and WJ yes. But then asking about option on a Jeep can be confussing since Jeeps get modified by owners and could be ordered almost with any options available on any model, since the only real differences between the Trim Levels are cosmetic, LOOKS and comfort.

it will have 3.55 gear, with 33 you want 4.56 for DD, and lower for a trail rig.
