Default 87 Cherokee motor mount condition

This is passenger side, wheel well motor mount. Is this normal? Looks like it is missing a substantial amount of rubber?

lol yours actually look worse than mine, and that's a feat! yeah that needs replaced (mine too!), and the sooner the better. if all your hardware is in tact, you can get good replacements from any big box automotive store (autozone, napa, oreileys, etc)

Don't toss the outer metal shell pieces. Some of the new mounts provide just the rubber (urethane) part.

That's gone. Make sure to replace both sides and the transmission mount. Double check the bolts that hold the brackets to the block.

I'm no expert, but methinks that might be slightly under spec lol

I put them in my last 2 Jeeps. No vibes at all. Will never put a rubber mount back in. I actually have a set waiting to go in my current XJ whenever I get around to it.

I have found aftermarket chain parts store rubber mounts to be junk. Rubber deformed and failed shortly after install. I run urethane now, did not note any increase in noise or vibes.
Yours is shot, replace without delay. motor may shift forward and that may run the fan into the radiator consider replacing all three mounts.

In regard to urethane motor mounts, I also do not feel any increased vibration. I did find that they are a little more difficult to install. Because they are so much more resilient, they seem to be slightly oversized, which they are not, but it does seem to make their installation take a little longer - both in remounting them into the engine mount shells and alignment setting the engine down.

Nah, a couple zip ties and duct tape will fix that right up. Yeah fix that soon. All that extra movement plays hell with the exhaust manifold and wiring harness.

The mew mounts are on. It was fairly straight forward job. I couldn't believe how much I had to jack the motor up to get things lined up! It was really sagging in those old mounts.

That's why it's important to change out the rear transmission mount as well. If it is as worn, the driveline angle can change enough when the engine mounts are changed to cause driveline vibration.
