So i bought this jeep from a college kid who got it from his grandpa a year ago. thats what i know about it and thats what he knows about it. let me begin by saying i paid scrap price for it so i really cant complain as it does run.
supposedly the engine was rebuilt at some point.. clutch/tranny are good all ranges function properly. i added new plugs and wires and checked the distributor. I put in a fuel filter changed all the fluids so on and so forth all new car must haves are complete.
it idles very rough and likes to die once its warmed up if I'm not on the gas pedal the whole time. the vacuum hoses are a maze and i have no knowledge of carburetor repair so im hoping y'all can help me.
anything helps, thanks guys.

The carbs on those 2.8 engines have a problem with the throttles shafts wearing and causing a vacuum leak. You will chase your tail looking for a vacuum leak only to find out the carb is junk.

oh i have found vacuum leaks, looks like the kid took a pocket knife to anything remotely in his way. that being said maybe i should invest in a carb rebuild kit? or would a entirely new carb be the only way to fix this

Sort out the vacuum leaks first. Vacuum leaks really effect how a carbureted engine runs more than vacuum leaks on a fuel injected engine.

it would help if the haynes manuals vacuum diagram wasn't all in Greek haha but im slowly working on it. i think im buying a can of ether to test for more leaks tomorrow, its a very slow process i have discovered as the engine for this thing is basically a giant knot of vacuum hoses from what i can tell
