86 vs. 95
hey yall i need some help. I have an 86 cherokee with a 2.8 gutless wonder. It has a blown front diff, 198k miles on the engine, and needs new suspension. Should i rebuild it or should i get this 95 cherokee with the 4.0 for 3k? it only has 52k miles on it and it's in mint condition. any thoughts???

I ould not listen to these guys...
if the jeep is mint and has only 52k 3000 is not a bad price, I would pick that up. I used to have a 86 and they are crap compared to the 4.0's.

I got an 89 model I enjoy it but I think I would like a 95 more. But I only paid 400 for mine. I wouldnt pay over 2 grand for any cherokee.

You got to be kidding me right? Have you ever heard the saying you get what you pay for? Yeah you can pick up a decent cherokee for cheap but lets be realistic, unless you wanna be messin with it constantly you might just want to pay more from the start and get something clean.
I just picked up a cherry 96 country edition with fully records of maintence since new from an old couple for 7k, low miles, leather interior, it looks like it was kept in plastic wrap. not a scratch anywhere. Sure it was a little more then blue book but I know this jeep is going to last a long time. But I guess it all depends on the person, me I would rather have a project car I can work on and mess with when I want to not when I have to.

Little things you have to replace here and there. Your going to do that with something that's driven frequently nicely or roughly and your also going to have to replace things if it's driven not frequently nicely or roughly. It's a vehicle. They break! Then need fixed. It's called maintance!! The more you beat on something the more maintance it will need. Most likely a jeep like the one he is buying will have a lot less rust and dings and dent than your 400$ xj that most likely looks battered and wouldn't look and run half as good as the one he's getting even if you dumped 3k in it. Point is yes it worth it for what it is.
Nice find and take care of it and maintain it if you get it
