I got a 86 cherokee 2.8 ltr and the motor is blown, is it possible to upgrade to the 4.0ltr and if so do you keep the same tranny? Is it a pain in the A%s or worth the hassell, stupid question I know but I am new to this whole Jeep world and I figured this would be the best way to find out!!

It is possible but with all the wiring it definately a pia, you will need the wiring harness from the donor vehicle and the computer but the tranny should work.

 

It can be done but you are better off sticking with what it came with or finding an xj with a 4.0,87 or later.
