Default 84-96 center counsole issue

One of the many reasons as to why I hate how cheap the 84-96 interiors are; has to be the broken lid on my center counsole. It's been this way since I bought the '96 from it's previous owner and I'm tired of it falling off whenever I bump it.

Is there anyone on here who has an idea on how to reattach the lid to the hinges on the center counsole? Let me know!

grab a new console from a junk yard.
obviously someone heavy used it to prop himself up on his elbow.

Mine was broke in my 93' from being slammed shut all the time, If I remember right it got slightly larger screws glued in...it was a farm jeep so it didn't need anything fancy, but seems like it worked out ok.

Yeah according to the carfax on my Jeep, it was a fleet vehicle for the city of St. Louis, MO for 12 years so it probably saw tons of abuse before I got it. The side of the driver's seat is cracked so I bet you're right about the fat guy messing up my arm rest lid. I'm going to try using bigger screws and if that doesn't work, I'm taking a trip to a junkyard where I can get one for a dollar probably!

I got the whole center console the week before - $15 (missing the arm rest)
and i just came from the JY bout an hour ago, for a new arm rest - $5

the hinge area was broke so i hot glued and bigger screwed it in place
then painted it all flat black with some krylon plastic spray paint - cant tell its not brand new... except now the rest of my jeep looks out of place on the interior, so i might pull the dash and start painting..

Still, not a bad investment over all

Nice! I'm planning on painting and upgrading most of my interior this spring/summer. I got my arm rest thing today from the JY for free. The cashier was really cool and told me I could just take it home for free .

I'll probably swap my center counsole out for one from a 97-01 XJ because the interiors in those are nicer.

Gorilla Glue.. Or order the metal insert box from the Quadratech catalog.
