Default 8.8 rear gear question

guys, i have never tore into a rear axle more than changing wheel bearings and seals. but i have an 8.8 axle that has a cracked tooth on the ring gear. i also have another 8.8 axle that has a good ring gear. is it possible to just swap the ring gears and not have to reset all the preload and shims? or do i have to recheck the backlash and shim the carrier different and all that?

and i dont mean just change the ring gear, i mean whole carrier/ring gear assembly.

any help/advise would be greatly appreciated. im off today and tomorrow and i have to get this fixed now, with no money! lol broke till friday.

You cannot replace just the ring gear and expect the axle to last.

Ring and pinions are sold as a matched set. The individual pieces are not interchangeable.
