no transfer case i have a 2wd cherokee but maybee that could be a problem the fact that the shaft is at a different angle and is putting stress on the rear parts of the transmission
any other ideas

all i have added were some flat springs that i added a 2 inch add a leaf to and some spring boosters to the front to lvl it out some
oh and some stuff under the hood but thats it and now it gronds for some odd reason

From the pictures it seems like your pinion is pointed up a little too much. You need to put an angle finder on both yokes to rule it out for sure.

One more thing!! Did you use the U bolts from your old axle or the 8.25?? You should be using the U bolts from the 8.25.

ok
ok so just to recap
1. I have a 2 wheel drive 1998 Jeep Cherokee with a 8.25 from the factory
2. I was an idiot and put a 2 inch add a leaf in some flattened out leaf springs
3. It grinds and makes noise
so what i have done since last post
1. Put in new u joints and rear trans seal
It still grinds ..... what was the comment about pinion angle
and also i was wondering if it sould be a bearing or something else in side the differential ??
by the way the u joints were factory original and the jeep has 215 k miles so they were worn out to begin with
but i did figure out the sound doesn't start at all until i reach 35 mph and it stops when i fall below there but on the highway going about 65 mph it gets kinda loud and annoying "roaring" if you will ... dont want to have to park this thing its my daily driver and it gets better gas mileage than my other car so .....
Any ideas or help greatly appreciated
thanks viper
Edit : the truck was only lifted about half an inch over factory ride height in the rear and about a quarter of an inch in the front as measured but who knows the thing has some miles

Use a longer yoke from a yj. Your yoke is partially disengaging from the transmission most likely on hard stops and deep whoops in the road. Drop the tranny mount to help with the angles.
