Default 8.25 rear end

Okay, found this posting. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/2047083000.html Seems really cheap to me, and if it is I want to buy it but how difficult is a swap? Worth going to pick up and putting on in the near future?

It's still a 27 spline which is the same as your Dana 35, not really worth it in my opinion. Look for an 8.25 out of a 97+ as it would be 29 spline and much more desireable.

Of course there's always the select few out there, thats a given. And there's also guys that put 39" pitbull rockers on a Dana 30 w/ beadlocks, does that mean I'm gonna do it? Not a shot in hell.

true story. I bought my new 8.25 knowing it was a 27 spline only for the r&p, i was going to swap the gearing into the axle i currently have but i hear the 27/29 spline isnt that much of a difference for 33s so i'm just gonna bolt the new axle in and off i go

96 and down have 27 splines, so yours is a 27 spline 8.25.

My 94 XJ has a 8.25 Chrys dif. I know the outside diameter is 3" as opposed to 2.5" on the dana. Does that make it any stronger?

The housing is stronger yes and the shafts are a bit bigger diameter on the 8.25 too

if you have a 27 spline and want a 29 spline just buy a locker for a 29 spline and 29 spline axle shafts and tada swap complete
it kills two birds with one stone stronger axle and you gain a locker!

im not 100% sure but i would say im at least 90% sure its a direct bolt on as long as you get it from another cherokee

also its unlikely to come across one but the kj (liberty) has an 8.25 29 spline that is rumored to fit an xj and you gain rear disc brakes
