Default 8.25 rear end

So I have a 2000 xj with the Chrysler 8.25 rear end but I don't know if I'm just looking in weird places or what but what was the factory spline, 27 or 29?

No.
Up to 96.5 are 27 spline.
97+ are all 29 spline.

If he's using the app...it doesn't show up on his screen.
Yet another reason to hate the app.

Although your wisdom is great, I've actually seen several stock 97 8.25 axles with 27 spline. I've noticed that the 27 spline have an extra Collar by the pinion

Nope. All 97's are 29 spline.
Some 96's had 29 but the only way to know is to count the splines.

The collar on the pinion doesn't tell you anything.
BTDT....honestly.

I strongly suggest replacing the wheel studs with the longer Dana 30 studs while you have the axles out.

If you get the kit Big David sells he provides the longer studs with it.
