I have a question for you guys. First of all, just joined this forum. Looks like a cool forum with tons of useful information.

I have noticed that not a lot of the '97-'01 Cherokees come in 5-speeds, but most of the '88-'96's do. Am I correct?

I had to drive 500 miles to find a 4.0 5-speed 4X4 Cherokee! There was literally none for sale in my area!

 

i think so... alot of my friends were surprised to see a 5 speed in my old 88 jeep. That thing was amazing on gas and was a honda stalker

 

Well if you consider that the yjs and tjs are almost all manual 5speed...

 

yes why yes they are....but in XJ's they are hard to come by

 

Yeah i think it was only like 3% of the jeep xj's made were 5 spd guess they werent so popular.

 

I had to work hard to find mine! I wanted a 4.0 4x4 5 speed TWO DOOR!! Finally found one but had to settle for a fixer upper.. I shopped for months till i found one, it was a 93.. Love it though!

 

i stumbled upon my 97 2 door 5 speed by accident. i paid 550 bux for it and love the hell out of it. its a lil beat but when i get it back to the states (im in germany), ill really start to work on it. right now i just use it as a daily driver.

 

I think the lack of 5 speeds comes from the fact that the Cherokee may have been aimed more at wife's of Jeep owners. Autos are easier to drive in traffic and the XJ was a daily commuter type vehicle. I would be willing to bet more of the newer Wranglers are autos....

btw... my 93 XJ is also a 2door 5 speed.

 

yes the LOTS of the newer wranglers are auto

 

every cherokee iv seen has been a 5 speed mines a 86

dont mean to double post but lol thats true. i see alot of 5 speed xjs around here. i think the zj 5 speeds are rare around here..

 

When I bought mine (in Oregon) I had a hard time finding an auto. They were all 5-Speeds.
