So I have a 97 cherokee lifted an I'm looking to swap it from an automatic to a five speed. I have a complete donor with a five speed in it. My question is do I need to remove the entire engine wiring harness and transmission harness to accomplish the swap. Any info appreciated

You should not, being that the transmission and engine are run separately.

Did you swap the 5spd into your jeep or have a 5spd already and replaced the CPU with one out of a auto?

I still have my wrecked 5spd and I'm trying to decided if I want to put it in my new auto as well. My big concern is wiring up the backup lights and whether it will impact the use of my cruise control (although I have never used my cruise control...one day...I might )

I had a 5 speed and went and bought an automatic's computer. All the lights turn signal, high beam low beam back ups all worked fine

The only thing is the shift light doesn't work completely. It'll be in 5th and tell you to shift up

So I completed the swap, it turned out good. Improved my fuel economy and its way better to drive. But I ended up with a check engine light without changing the wiring harness or computer. I borrowed my friends computer and still had codes. Not really concerned but I would like to fix it

All 5speed Jeeps will tell you to shift in 5th. My manche does it all the time. It's completely normal.

What year did you swap it with? I swapped my 97 with a 98 engine bay harness. The lead detection pump is a bit different. I still to swap in the engine harness from the 98 so my reverse lights will work and get the check engine light off for the leak detection pump. In order to swap the engine harness I will have to swap the ignition coil and the distributor.

Oh and fwiw my shift light does not tell me to shift into 6th gear.

Don't harness un plug by oil dip stick tube to swap in 5 speed harness might be setting off light because 5 speed dont requires nss plug .5 speed ecm swap it also.
