So i have a 90Xj and i went mudding one day and had to engage in 4x4 low and put it on the 1-2 gears, bogged it and after i got out and got home i checked to see if my 4x4 worked still and it wouldn't tell me the 4x4 was on on my dash even tough it felt like it was on! i checked the dash bulb and the dash fuse and still nothing. any ideas?? i just want to make sure my 4x4 is ok still.

 

i think there is a sensor on the shifter to tell what your in...maybe that is damaged.

 

The best way to tell if you are in 4X4 is to engage it and then jack up one front wheel. If you can spin it, then it is not engaged. Your 90 XJ has a vacuum disconnect. It is when vacuum goes from the disconnect to the switch under the heater motor in the engine compartment then the light comes on. There is no direct switch that turns it on.
