4x4 not engaging
for some reason when i put my jeep into 4x44 low or high the front axle will not engage i can feel the change in gear ratio, but its not locking in. is this 4x4 system the same set up as the tj's if so what usually goes bad. iv never had this issue with my tj.

I assume yu mean the light on the dash is not coming on. There is a vacuum disconnect on the front axle that is Detroits substitute for automatic hubs. If it is not working, it will not be in 4 wheel drive. Put it in 4 wheel drive, and jack up one front tire and see if it spins by hand. If it does, it is not working. While it is up, crawl under and try to turn the drive shaft. If it doesn't, the transfer case is working and it is the disconnect that is not. Make sure all the vacuum lines are intact. If they are, then you will have to replace the vacuum motor, a common problem.
