I have a 91 limited and I know the 4X4 works just when I engage it the 4x4 light doesn't come on. where on the dash is it so I can check the bulb.

Mine was the transfer case switch. Pull the plug off the switch, take a piece of wire and make a small U out of it and put it in the connector going to the switch, making contact with the 2 contacts in the wire connector. Turn the key to run and see if the 4x4 lights up. If it does its the switch and if it does not its the bulb.

I you have a CAD axle it runs off vacuum.

 

do you have the 231 or 242? and does it have this on the passengers side axle?

 

I have the 242 with a high pinion non disco from the factory.

I didnt have a chance to check the Tcase switch yet because I was fixin some of the PO's f'd up " fixes " he did and noticed my distributer was loose and didn't have the hold down on it.

it was snapped clean off so my dizzy was jumping as the motor was running. I swapped it with a spare from another engine i have and "amazingly" my idle smoothed out and the engine runs better lol
