Do all NP231 transfer case XJs have a light, and switch for it? If so, where is the switch. I have used my XJ in high, and low. Never had a light, just alway went by feel to know it was out of 4x4. I put the tranmission in neutral, and it has always popped right out.

 

Although your question confuses me just a lil bit, yea the 231 has an indicator light your just might be burnt out. What do you mean by switch?

 

the light was in the cluster on all my xj's they never worked ever even my buddies i dont think they ever worked these are 98's

 

I meant, if it had a light. It would need something to activate it. There must be a micro-switch somewhere. I have never seen any under the console, or wires going into the transfer case.

there is a switch on top of the tcase, the switch may be bad (15$ and 20 mins) or the light may be out 5$, but more time.
Test it and find out.

 

thats what that one connector is for on top of t case

 

I am putting in a Powertrax locker tomorrow, so I check tranfer case ATF level I will test the switch. I don't know why I never saw it. Guess I was never looking for it. I never drove a 4x4 with a light. I have wheeled since the 70's. Thanks to all. Sorry if I PO anybody.
