Default 4x4 continues

Okay well after mudding yesterday i went to turn off the 4x4 but the lightf never turner off. After that i had to drive home and went up to bout 45 to 50 mph. while the light still said (part time) but the lever was down to 2 wheel drive. When i got home i looked it up and people said that if you take a sharp turn left or right you will know it is in 4x4 something like it will shake if your not on mud. So i did this and it felt as if i drive it everyday. So i got questions 1.) wouldnt i have noticed something if is ws in 4x4 going 50 mph? i mean like something bad. 2.) could the sensior of the 4x4 be messed up and the light just stays on. And 3.) is the turning left right sharp thing true? If so wouldnt that mean im not in 4x4? thanks guys!

Ok. If you turn hard left or hard right with your jeep in 4wheel drive on asphalt or another hard surface you WILL feel the jeep "jumping" as if it is in a bind. If it turns normal like it would during everyday driving "smoothly", if you will, then your jeep is not in 4 wheel drive. Do not do this test on soft ground as in grass, sand, mud, etc... If you do you may not be able to feel the jeep "jumping" or "binding". I dont think i can say it any simpler.

Okay so do you thing i should go and pull my 4x4 on to see if it does jump. then turn off and see if thaat made a diffrince? im fine with part time light being on just dont want to hurt the 4x4 by driving round. Will it hurt it if i turn with 4x4 but not go over 25 mph?

Have you checked to see if you are in 4wheel drive yet? Dont touch the tcase shifter, just go make a couple sharp turns SLOWLY! on asphalt, parking lot. Just take it easy getting there. Dont drive it like you stole it. Check to see if its in 4wd 'as in do the test i posted earlier' then report back with something like " well did the test and it felt smooth turning" or "did the test and thought my front end was gonna fall apart because it felt horrible". Dont post again till you test it.

Nice, haha..

But yes, follow bheath's advice, it's the easiest way to tell if it's in 4. You'll KNOW it's in 4 when you try to turn sharp on dry pavement, it'll feel like the front wheels are binding up. If you don't notice anything unusual, then you're not in 4.

The light is probably triggered by the lever and not the actual operation of the t-case (just an educated guess) so it's possible that the trip for the light is messed up in some way.

One thing I do to make sure it is out of 4wheel(I don't have a working light), is I stop completely drop it into 2 wheel, reverse a couple feet and then put it back in drive and power brake it. If my back wheels are the only ones that want to spin then its definetly in 2wheel. The light is not controlled by the TC shifter but a sensor on the top of the transfer case. I think that there is a write up on how to check it.

x2 without power braking it tho lol. i just put in reverse move about a foot and then put back in drive. Works like a charm.

If it turned smooth its not in 4. That means you need to check the sensor/light. Yes you can go test the 4 wheel drive. Be gentle on asphalt though.
