4x4 to 2x2
Hi All, I have signed up on behalf of my brother that is not into computers but needs some info, hope thats ok.
He has a 2000 Cherokee with a 3.9 petrol engine and wants to know if the 4x4 part can be removed to turn the car into a normal 2 wheel drive?
The reason he wants to know is that he crashed his jeep and wants to use the parts on his classic Truck as the Cherokee had only 40,000 miles on the clock and he had it from new.
I trawled the web but can't find any answers so any help appreciated.

Look up 2x4 to 4x4 conversions. some one did a great write up on it in this forum. Than fallow the steps backwards. Basically you'd need to swap in the 2x4 tranny, the matching drive shaft and ditch the front axle with the pumkin for a dumy one. There is more to it but that sums up the major parts exhcange required.

Also, did you read what they wrote on how they plan to use it? I made it bold. So it wont ever be a 2wd

I have a RWD XJ that I've drove 150,000 miles. Has 220,000 on it. I love it. The AMC engine is great and extremely reliable and for what I can haul and store inside it's been the best investment I've ever made. You're seriously telling me that my Jeep has a purposeless existence or something like that? Sorry if I've hijacked- couldn't let that one go.
