Default 4WD would not disengage tonight until i made a turn... maintenance questions

So from some of my other posts you may see I have been doing some work and getting my jeep together before the winter here in ohio. tonight after dropping my stepson off at his dads i decided to throw it into Full time 4wd, it engaged properly and i could tell i was in 4wd, so flop the shifter back to 2wd, and it shifts to part time and would not come out, tried accelerating and letting off gas to pop it out several times with no luck. put the car in reverse, than back in drive and would not come out. Finally making a turn into mcdonalds i hurt the little pop sound and it came out of part time and back to 2wd. I am wondering what i need to do for proper maintenance on the 4wd system, what i should lube up or check out on why it wouldnt come out, never a problem in the past, this just came up. i didnt put it back in 4wd, but maybe it could be cause i havent used 4wd since last february or march.

any info is appreciated.

need to know which T-case you have....my thought is that you have a 231 and it is a problem with the vacume switch on top of the T-case....at least that would be my first thought.

A tag on the back of the case....also you can look and see if you have a vacume motor on the front axle, it will be on the pass side.
