Just bought a 1996 cherokee which is manuel from my friend that went off to school and idk if the 4wd works? i lifted the front end up, while it was in 2wd and the front wheels spinned freely. then when i put it in 4wd hi,(light comes on part-time) the front wheels spin opposite directions? is that right?

i also cant get the lever to go to neutral or 4wd low?

 

Try it out in a gravel parking lot. First 2wd stand on the gas, then shift to 4hi and stand on it. You should feel the difference.
