I've been having some problems with my 4wd lately. If I shift into 4Hi while moving it engages fine but there is a god aweful noise coming from what seems to be either the front axle or the T-case. I can't pick out exactly which one it's coming from.

The noise is a very, very loud whinning noise, directly related to speed.
Another effect is that while in 4Hi the jeep become pretty unstable at anything over 15 mph, feeling like it's pulling side to side and unable to drive straight.
If I shift back into 2wd the light goes off but I can feel the 4wd is still engaged. Standing still, driving, loose dirt, asphalt doesn't seem to make a difference. The only way I can get it back into 2wd is to stop, shift into reverse and slam the pedal for a second.

If anyone can help me with this, I'm completely stumped. I tried changing the fluid just incase it was something that simple, but it didn't do a thing.

Some details: '94 4.0 lt Auto Trans Command Trac. 3 in. RC lift, adjustable track bar, new draglink, tie rod ends, adjusting tube. Alignment done recently, 1 in. T-case drop, all else stock

My knowledge is that 4hi isn't meant for more than like 15-20 and it is common for it to not fully disengage, I could be something with your vacuum lines
