Default 4wd stopped working

Today I decided to go to the beach, selected 4h proceeded to the beach and sank front tired not moving just two back tires spining out of control. New to jeeps tried it the other day and it worked fine before I bought it. What could have happened between last week and today anything will help.

Default Front Axle??

What front axle do you have? If it is the Dana 30 with the vaccuum actuated 4wd, the you could just have a bad vacuum connection. Theyre kinda notorious for that.

I think the line that you found is the vent tube there should be a vacuum acuator on the passenger side of the axle.

the axle is vacum actuated on the older XJs,you can put on the Posi Lok system,or you can permenantly lock the axle in place, there a few ways to do it,there is a write up on here on how to.
