I don't know of any specific adapter for the Jeeps but if the Jeeps have the same bolt pattern as some of the dodge transmissions it could possibly bolt up but I doubt it. You will probably need a custom adapter plate made for it, and I doubt the auto trans will hold up to the torque for very long, and you would need a torque converter built for it as well. In the latest diesel power magazine they have somebody that swapped the 2.8L I4 diesel from a Jeep Liberty into their Cherokee, looks nice.
Another option would be to use a Chevy, Ford, or Dodge trans with the 4BT as the adapter plates are easy and cheap to find usually for them. Don't know how easily a Chevy turbo 400 would fit in a Cherokee but it is an option.

In '04 for export, Jeep built the Grand Cherokee Final Edition It featured a 5 cyl.2.7 CRD diesel.

new front springs ( the 4bta is nearly 800 lbs with accessories)
loose the front drive axle ( top to bottom depth with standard pan is nearly 30"), and the depth up front will have issues with the steering, sway bar, etc.
stock trannies wont hold up to the torque
plumbing the intercooler would prove interesting...as would a rad with sufficient capacity to keep it cool.
bottom line...even in a full size cherokee, a 4bt, or 6bt is a problematic swap. In an XJ, while theoretically possible, it not worth it for the # of problems. there are better solutions, with fewer technical problems, and better driveability.

Looks like a pain to get that intercooler in there. My old 91 Dodge has a non-intercooled Cummins in it, theres just a pipe that crosses over the top of the engine to the intake manifold, makes it simpiler, and easier to change the oil filter.
