45 PSI oil pressure - rookie question
Hello folks,
Just picked up a 99 cherokee sport last week. I flushed the coolant last night and tried to degrease the engine a bit and think I caused an issue. I did use slow water to rinse the degreaser.
Heres the issue, At idle my oil pressure gauge is reading about 45 PSI. yesterday is was around 10 psi at idle and since its high now I think i messed something up. I checked the 3 prong connection at the sending unit and it seems tight. Is it just coincidence that the sending unit died at the time I degreased the engine? I'm just concerned I'm going to blow a seal or something with high oil pressure.
Thanks
Oh yeah, and the pressure doesnt seem to fluctuate when I accelerate.

Detach the harness connector from the oil pressure sensor. Clean the pin connectors in the harness connector and the sensor connector with CRC Electronics Cleaner. Examine the pins and sockets for corrosion (black appearance) and reattach if okay. Ops check the oil pressure indication.
If no change you may want to replace the oil pressure sensor.
You said "yesterday is was around 10 psi at idle". The minimum oil pressure at idle is 13 psi. 10 psi would be too low.
If you can't see at least 13 psi at idle after cleaning the connector and/or replacing the sensor you may want to look at some oil additive. There are plenty of threads about oil additives, and oil SAE weights. Do a search and see where you stand.
