Default 443: Evaporative purge flow system solenoid not working properly

Hey guys,

I'm a noob who was referred by one of your members I met on another forum. Anyway, I looked at a cherokee today. I can get a decent deal on it, but it's got a check engine light. It's shooting code 443 which appears to be 'Evaporative purge flow system solenoid not working properly'. Anybody know what exactly this is? Approximate cost to fix? I don't know much about working on my own vehicles. I am trying to learn so I can begin to work on this jeep a little bit myself. Anyway, any and all info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Oh, and even if it is something super noob-ish that I could resolve myself, I would still appreciate some kind of estimate that a shop would cost, as this could be useful for price negotiation. Thanks again.

Thanks.. I googled some stuff earlier and found a few things, but didn't see that autogeek one. I did read a lot of places that a common cause is a loose gas cap. I wonder if the gas cap was tightened, how many cycles it would take for it to reset. I am thinking of calling the seller and seeing if she could confirm that the cap is tight, and try recycling the engine a few times. Although, I don't expect her to sit there all night starting the engine over and over, lol. I am getting the cherokee for $1500 so I don't know how much I should try to get her to take off of the price to take this repair into account.

That reminds me, would a cycle be just turning the switch ON/OFF or does a cycle require starting the engine...?
