$400 '95 Cherokee Sport....got a LOT of questions (grinding in trans)..
I've registered for my Brother (since I'm going to be helping him with it and have internet access most of the time)..
He bought (hasn't moved it yet...inspection expired 2 years ago) a '95 4Dr Sport.
Alternator is frozen (starts fine, but a hell of a squeal from the belt running across it). Easy fix.
The seller says it "grinds a bit" on shifting (Auto Trans) ONLY in 2WD, and not all the time when it shifts. He said something about adjusting a front and rear band on it. ((The way the seller described it was it sounds like shifting a dual speed rear axle truck...and missing the shift)). Is that a possible source or should my brother look at other issues?
For now, those are the first issues (broken hood cable is another, but my Brother doesn't think it will be a bad fix) that probably need to be addressed before it is roadworthy.
Body nice....minimal rust underneath. Interior dirty (but mostly intact...a few minor things by way of cosmetics to be done over time). 180k miles on the vehicle (odometer exempt but that is probably right), 4.0L engine.
Anything else that is common to the year as an issue, or should be looked at immediately.

Thanks for the recommendation...
I'm guessing he'll have to drill holes to get the pins through the hood..?
(Probably do that once he gets it home rather than where it's parked.).
Among other things he said:
Rear hatch...missing wiper arm and doesn't seem to close all the way (the gap at the top is smaller than the gap at the bottom...it latches fine, but he's wondering if that's adjustable).
Left passenger door panel is missing arm rest (has a slight tear in the panel where the armrest would be).
A few door switches missing or not working.
Carpet (Dirty) might need to be replaced and/or seats (depending on how they clean up).
Sources or ideas for any of the above would be great!
Thanks!!

not adjustable, might be able to shim it. go to JY for the rear wiper arm
Left passenger door panel is missing arm rest (has a slight tear in the panel where the armrest would be).
JY also, look for a cash for clunkers jeep
A few door switches missing or not working.
Junk Yard....
Carpet (Dirty) might need to be replaced and/or seats (depending on how they clean up).
depending on plans for it, rip it out and replace, or rhino line.
Sources or ideas for any of the above would be great!

Any good on-line sources for carpet?
Rhino-line sounds interesting also. Paint on, right?
This is to be a getting around in, carry his kayak(s) vehicle rather than any major off-road use.
Still wondering about the grinding in the trans (whenever an auto trans has not worked for me, it always seems to slip or not go into gear at all...never a grinding sound).
Thanks!
