Default 4 LOW Question

My 1998 Jeep Cherokee Limited wont go in to 4 Low. It goes into 4 wheel drive perfectly fine, but I cant get it to go in to 4 Low. Any ideas on what to do??? Any tricks on getting it in to 4 Low???? I just bought the jeep last week.
Anything helps thanks

try going into 4 hi then reverse it a little ways. then go into neutral and shift into 4 lo. dont press the brake let your jeep sit where it wants.

More than likely your transfer case is fine. The most common issue causing no 4-lo is linkage, like the previous poster mentioned. The linkage will need adjusted slightly. have someone shift it from 2 wheel to 4-hi, then try to go to 4-lo. when you do this, you will see how the linkage moves, and can try to adjust it. Sometimes the bolt that "holds it in place" goes bad and slips a little, since 4-lo is kind of it most tension point, out of its positions. But try adjusting it, and it should fix the problem, then go 2wd, and 4-hi and nuetral to make sure everything is in its normal places, and goes and doesn't where it is supposed to. I had to deal with this on my wranger, then again when I put a body lift on... luckily that problemis nixed on a cherokee, as that results in cutting. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
