I got a 98 cherokee. I can put it into 4 hi no problem but going from neutral to 4 low is very hard and everytime i manage to put it into 4 low i roll a bit and it pops right back out into neutral. i wonder if i am doing something wrong.
any help is appreciated

come to a stop, put auto trans in neutral, shift into 4 low, shift trans back into gear and go.

for stick, i come to a stop, push the clutch in, shift to 4 low, put in 1st gear, release clutch and go.

 

that is the issue, when i put it back into drive and roll away the transfer case pops out of 4low and back into neutral.

 

Sounds like the linkage might need to be adjuated
