4:10 gearing, mpg questions.
So I'm looking at a '99 Cherokee XJ (going to drive tomorrow). The price is right, but it has 4:10 gearing. I'm concerned about how this might affect fuel economy?
The vehicle is running 245/75-16 Wrangler AT, has a 2 or 3 inch lift, and is a manual 5 speed w/ 4.0. Is this thing going to be a guzzler? I mean, I know a Cherokee is not the most fuel conserving vehicle to begin with, but I don't want something that is going to give me 15 hwy mpg. I am also curious about whether or not this ratio was a factory option?
Changing the gear ratios sounds like it could be an expensive chore.
I doubt anyone will see this so late, but I'm supposed to make a decision on this thing tomorrow. So any feedback will be appreciated. If this question should be in another place, let me know.

Your mileage will INCREASE if you have larger than stock tires and don't drive it like you stole it. I wish my jeep had 4.10s. You better buy that thing haha

I usually get 18mpg staying under 70mph. 245/75/16 with a 3.5" lift. Most I have ever gotten was 20mpg. Still running stock gearing.
in the city is get 13-15mpg..depending on how much stop and go traffic there is. lots of rolling hills around here, think the Jeep would be best with 4:10 . would get good up and go and won't work as hard trying to climb these rolling hills of central texas
