I've got an 87 Cherokee with the 4.0l. I have removed the pan, removed the rear-most bearing containing the bottom portion of the 2 piece rear main seal and I can't get the top portion of the seal to budge... Tried a punch, a little bit longer screw driver, but to no avail... I feel like something longer in there would allow me to get a better swing on it since I'm in such a tight spot, but kinda afraid to hit it too hard.. don't want to scar any metal parts. Anybody got any ideas?? Thanks

It is a real pain, best bet is to find a small metal rod as close to size as possible to the seal and give it a good wack, i had the top part of mine get stuck too. What was said before me is what you want to do
