What do you mean by doing a valve rotation and how do you look at the tappit by just removing the valve cover.... Hey also does anyone know if there's a roller cam conversion for these engines?

the valves need to be spun 90 degrees. sorry also have to remove rocker arms. its not the tappet since its a push rod motor that was my mistake. its the actual valve stem. circular wear pattern indicates a spinning valve. i am assuming you mean roller rockers multiple companies make them. have no experience with any of them therefore have to opinion or suggestions to make, just google it

I mean roller lifters. I also call lifters tappits ( old school) so I was confused.

If it is the evap solenoid, would the ticking stop when increasing the rpm? On mine it ticks very bad when cold. Seems like it takes a while to stop, it acts like a bad lifter, if so it would not go away, correct? If it were a lifter would changing the viscosity of the oil change the characteristic of the noise?

Yeah... what's considered a normal tick for these 4.0s? say like a '99? and what is a possible indicator that something needs to be looked at further?

I know coming from building and running inline 4's for performance for ones with the newer VVTi. Those can sound really odd at idle but is perfectly normal for that design.

My factory service manual says nothing about rotating the valve stems 90d. or about circular wear patterns on the ends of the stem.
So ..how do you rotate a valve with the spring and keepers installed?
If you rotate it because carbon is holding it in one spot, is the purpose to break a chunk of carbon off the valve?
